A Day to Remember
I've struggled hard to think what to say today. And I'm afraid I'm at a loss. I suppose today is a day more than anything to not think so much about weight loss and fitness.
You know?
If your head is in the weight loss and fitness space, then it's pretty likely you're a person with a lot to be thankful for. That is, rating it on a hierarchy of human need, losing weight and finding time for exercise? That's not too bad. Those of us concerned with these things likely have strong roofs over our heads and reliable meals to manage.
But today might be a good day to remember that there are a whole lot more people out there who have a lot less. It's a day to remember that many innocent lives are lost all over the world every day to violence and hatred that are being brewed all over the world every day through oppression and ignorance.
Whatever form of meditation works for you, whether it's prayer or letter writing, demonstration or gathering people for study and debate, how about doing that today? You know? Forego the calorie counting for one day, and spend the time building a more peaceful place around you, wherever you are.
You might:
*Talk to a kid about the importance of building peace-loving communities, countries, alliances, partnerships.
*Learn new ways to deal with your anger, frustration, fear.
*Talk to your elders about their memories of war.
*Make peace with an enemy.
*Forgive someone who has hurt you.
*Apologize to somebody.
Maybe put the diet on a lower rung today, and focus your work and your journal on healing. Whatever that means for you.
I will if you will,
