Never Too Late

Heard from Pink recently. She's been following the SDP for quite awhile. A former dancer with 100 extra lbs. on her, she's been fighting to get the weight off for years. She's taken up walking, though, and has been walking daily for most of this past month. The door has cracked open for Pink. She said she's been concerned lately that weight loss, fitness is out of her reach. She's been thinking "it's too late for me."

That just about pulled my heart and guts right out of my body and splayed them across my keyboard. No kidding.

It's never too late.

If you want to do this thing, and can make the extraordinary changes in your life, permanently, to lose and maintain your weight loss, then it's never too late.

It's never too late to decide to change forever. You can decide now, today, that you will reorder your life. Live differently.

Deciding to live differently is the key.

I know, I know, there are a lot of messages out there suggesting that attempting to lose weight is futile. Regaining the weight is inevitable. But it just isn't so.

It can be done, but it takes extraordinary motivation, behavioral modification, reordered thinking, attention to detail, time.

You will not succeed, and will almost certainly regain any lost weight if you don't make permanent changes to your diet and exercise.

You can't lose the weight and then eat like a naturally skinny person.

You can't lose the weight and then stop exercising and expect to maintain that loss.

You can't ever, ever eat all you want without worry, no matter how many marathons you run. Not if you staple your stomach, not if you take crazy metabolism boosting drugs.

If your metabolism stinks and your body is especially efficient at storing fat, then you will always need to be watchful of weight gain, will always need to count every calorie and point, mind your fat/carb/protein ratio, and exercise like crazy.

I'm sorry you and I have this body biochemistry. I really am. But that's our reality, dear hearts, and we have to live with it.

But I'm telling you it's not too late. You can start right this minute. If you do the work, you can reach a healthy weight and stay there. You can.

It's possible. It's hard. It gets much easier once you get the weight off, get fit, get used to it, but you can't ever stop.

Keep going folks.

Keep going, Pink. Girlfriend. You can do this thing.

Sheesh, you people kill me,
